Academico Books | Used Bookd Dealer Nevada
In 1994, I opened my first bookstore, Casa di Libri, at 135 Harvard St. in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In 1997, I worked for Edward Hoffman, ABAA in Columbus, Ohio, managing the nascent phase of his book cataloging efforts. Consequently, I was hired by Alibris and relocated to Reno, NV to manage and direct the cataloging operation of Dick Weatherford's new venture. Dot.comer 21 North Main hired me in the Fall of 2001 to facilitate their West Coast expansion. I then transitioned to Borders Books, Music & Cafe where I spent seven years as a General Manager directing operations in Reno, NV, Turlock, CA and Bangor, ME.
After three years with Target, I decided that my used book passion was a helluva lot more fun than wearing red and khaki all day. So, in 2010, I started Academico.
I hold a BA from The Ohio State University in Art History & English Literature and a MBA from Regis University. Additionally, I studied Classical Guitar at the University of New Mexico, in Brazil, and privately for nearly twenty years.
Secretly, I have mad crushes on three people: Joan of Arc, Henry David Thoreau and Steve Prefontaine.
The Academico theme song "Tricked" composed and performed by Keaton Casa
"Books are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill. I think that there is nothing, not even crime, more opposed to poetry, to philosophy, ay, to life itself than this incessant business."
--Henry David Thoreau
