I started Academico on April 5th, 2010--the day I handed my keys back to some V.P. at Target.
I apprenticed with Edward Hoffman, ABAA in Columbus, Ohio while an undergraduate at The Ohio State University, owned and operated Casa di Libri in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was an instrumental part of bringing Alibris to life in 1999, serving both as buyer and catalog manager for the online used book retailer.
I spent eight years in management with Borders Books, Music & Cafe working in Madison, WI, Reno, NV, Turlock, CA and Bangor, ME. Then I spent three god-awful years with Target in Merrimack, NH. I put 8,000 books in a U-Haul and drove to Nevada. Presently, Academico is nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Spanish Springs, NV.
Academico specializes in scholarly non-fiction, poetry, art and archaeology, western americana, philosophy, intellectual and cultural history, baseball and signed literature. But, to be honest, we buy and sell at all levels.
I completed my BA in History of Art at The Ohio State University, a MBA in Finance from Regis University and currently I am hard at work on a MA in History at Sam Houston State University. My MA Thesis, The Letters of Alexis de Tocqueville and Gustave de Beaumont: Conflicting Portrayals of Native Americans better be completed by August, 2014.
In 2005 I published The Stark Realities that Surround Texas, a chapbook of poems. And a new collection, Through These Observations, Healed, will be available through Amazon in late 2013.
I have played classical guitar for over twenty years, briefly studying at the University of New Mexico and privately in Brazil. I am a late-night scholar of Henry David Thoreau and Joan of Arc. I adore Steve Prefontaine.
Most importantly, I am the proud father of Keaton and Kincaide, future antiquarians. Keaton luvs mathematics, geography, baseball, Sudoku and sushi. Kincaide is obsessed with legos, trains, anything with a horn or trailer and will eat PBJs for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Academico is a reflection of who we are as a family--dedicated to education, books, beauty, baseball and yummy food.
